Combinations and Complements

Now, again, this might seem similar to other tips, but that simply is not the case. Here, we are talking about actual color combinations – and the way your colors mesh with your graphics and your choice of fonts. Consider this: you cannot – or at least, you should not – mix a bright green with, say, a bright orange. That just does not look good. The only good that is going to do is if your main aim is making your potential customers shudder in horror. You have to make sure every aspect of your sign complements every other aspect. It all needs to flow together because that is going to make it much more eye catching and attention grabbing. When you put together an unsightly banner, people are not going to want to look at it, let alone read it. Think about every time you yourself have seen an unattractive banner sign or advertisement. Remember that.

One of the biggest things that we want to stress whenever you are coming up with a banner is the color scheme. Mixing and matching colors can be extremely difficult, especially for someone who is not strong on the creative arts.

If you are the type of person that thinks bright pink and hot orange are going to look good together, you might want to take a second look at those colors. The color is going to be what draw the people to your sign and when you make the color scheme unbearable; it will not get the attention it deserves.

One great idea if you are not strong in the creative arts is consulting one of your colleagues. Brainstorming some possible banners and sharing ideas is a fantastic way to ensure that you are both not only on the same page but that the banner will turn out to be great. Two minds are better than one and while you might want to do this all on your own, you may need a little help in the color scheme area.

There are two parts of the banner that you need to consider when you are looking at color schemes. The first is going to be the color of the font and the next is going to be the color of the background. Generally, you want the color of the font to be darker than the color of the background, that way they do not blend into one another.

Blues, purples, greens and reds are all great colors, but you really need to pick out colors that go together. If you want a really bright sign, why not pick out a bright blue background with some beautiful darker green font? The darker green will tone down the bright blue so nothing will be overwhelming and these two colors look incredible together.

You always want to make sure that the colors go together perfectly and if you need to draw up several samples of the banner before you purchase it, it might be necessary. You want to make sure that you are happy with your banner and ensuring that the color scheme is good is a big part of that.
