Designing Smart

The most important thing you need to remember when you choose to design your own sign is to do it smartly. Your main goal here is to create an eye catching and easily read sign. There are ways that you can do that, and there are also a number of things you need to avoid. Some people are very tempted to fill their banner with as much information as possible. That is a bad idea however. Ultimately it will be much more difficult for potential customers to read. They may not know what you are trying to say, which could actually lose you business in the long term. In advertising, precise is always better. You want to stay away from clutter. When something is cluttered, people are not going to want to take the time to decipher what you are trying to say.

Designing smart is going to be the key to success when you are putting together your banner. This involves many things. It encompasses every aspect of graphic design. The way you design your banner is going to make all the difference. You have to remember, your primary aim is to make sure that you put up a banner which is easy to read, eye grabbing, attention getting, and understandable. Without those things, people are going to walk right by your banner without even noticing what it looks like. They are not even going to bother with it.

Now, first off, you need to think about scale. Everything needs to be in proportion with everything else. A larger than life graphic put together with a teeny, tiny little font is going to look weird and skewed. That is definitely not the message you want to send out to people. The only exception here involves font. It is perfectly acceptable to use two different types of font, one for a main message and one for a sub message, as long as they are complementary. The contrast will grab attention.

You also want to think about your color choices. They need to complement one another as well. Otherwise, the banner is either going to be totally bland or far too ostentatious. You want to be somewhere right in the middle – but do not worry, you can still be edgy and innovative.

Resolution is highly important as well. You want to make sure that the printed hard copy of your banner design will be high quality and, frankly, beautiful to look at, in terms of a marketing campaign. It needs to be attractive and attention grabbing, but you have got to straddle a fine line.

Proportionally, you want to make sure that your canvas size is correct. Make sure that the sizes complement one another as well. What that means is that you do not want a banner which is very long but much too thin. The height and width absolutely have to be in proportion with one another. Otherwise, the entire effect is going to look incredibly skewed and strange.
