- Draw in new members with roadside event signs.
- Use your mission statement to full effect.
- Create a “word cloud” in record time.
Being an active church member is all about getting the word out. You’ve got a great place to worship, and everyone should give it a try.
Your church may already have a sign out front with service times on it. So what’s the next step?
Let’s make a DIY church banner that will help clarify your message to both members and non-members alike. It’s time to start filling the house!
Make a Statement
The best place to start is with your church’s mission statement. What is your church’s goal? What do you hope to accomplish within the community?
This is exactly the kind of message you want right at the front door. A constant reminder of what you’re all striving toward is a great tool for building a sense of fellowship.
All you need to do is type out your mission statement and then emphasize the key words that will make it pop. Take words like “love” or “God” and make the text larger or bolder so your statement can be taken in at a glance.
Don’t have an official mission statement? No problem. Church members can decide on a passage of scripture that they feel represents the church’s goals.
The Power of the Word
Do you need a banner to decorate the nursery area, a blank hallway, or even the sanctuary? Are you stuck for what to say?
You’re not the first to experience “banner writer’s block,” but there is a simple solution.
It’s called a “word cloud,” and it couldn’t be easier to do.
First, write a list of words that fit your overall message. You’re not making sentences, just hitting the major nouns and verbs that will convey the emotion.
Now, take your list and go to one of the many free sites that generate word clouds, such as wordclouds.com. You’ll be able to paste in your word list and generate an awesome graphic in no time!
If you like the design and need more than one, just tailor a new list of words to whatever message you’re delivering. Most sites will even let you fit your list of words into a chosen shape, like a cross or dove.
Spread Your Message
Making attractive signs for the inside of your church is nice, but it’s time to venture outdoors. After all, spreading the church’s message to the community is what it’s all about!
Now comes the hard part. How do you get new people to walk through the door?
Start by making signs that promote social events, activities for kids, and any special services your church offers. Daycare, summer Bible camp, potluck dinners, etc. Does your church offer grief counseling or host meetings for support groups? You need to let everyone know.
Print up some roadside signs that show people that your church is dedicated to helping the community, and the word will spread.
And remember, you don’t have to be an artist to make some amazing signs. Head over to our handy design tool to get started right away!
