When it comes to designing banners, a good eye-catching design is key to making a successful design. One of the easiest ways to accomplish this is by using colors with high contrast.
In its simplest terms, high contrast colors refers to colors that stand out from each other. For example, black and white, or white on blue. When used on a design together, the colors stand out and are easily seen. Below are a couple of quick examples.

As you can see, the High contrast design is much easier to see. The best high contrast designs usually include dark colors on light backgrounds or reversed. In the end, use your best judgment on your design. If the design looks hard to read on your screen it will be hard to read on the banner.
